Inner Edges

The project »inner edges« concentrates on the frame, one of the five inherent qualities of photography according to the photographer and curator John Szarkowski. In his introduction to »The Photographer‘s Eye« he writes: »The central act of photography, the act of choosing and eliminating, forces a concentration on the picture edge – the line that separates in from out – and on the shapes that are created by it.« Several issues of the photography magazine »Photonews« functioned as working material for this project. Using a precision knife all text- and image elements were removed from the magazines. Only frames were left behind. The single issues were then reassembled and photographed afterwards. The new images provide a framework that turns the picture edges and omissions into a constructivist experiment.
